IO Proxy Exception

I am getting a error.txt file created in my XP Pro my documents with
the following "Proxy: (dot4_001) IO Proxy Exception: res_err_unknown"
Anybody know what this means?

We are looking at the USB Flashdrive, this is on a laptop on a docking
station and the user would just unplug the flashdrive with out telling
XP to disconnect first.
