Sometimes when I invite attendees to appointments, it
turns out to be a message that is all messed up, and not
an appointment. What is wrong?

Are you sending the appointment items outside of your Exchange organization?
If yes, then you need to force Rich Text Format. Depending on your version
of Outlook, you can right click on the address, select properties and check
the box at the bottom to send Rich Text Format.

I assume you are sending the invite to other "Outlook"
users (in a non-Exchange environment). If their Outlook
version is different from yours, make sure you turn off
the reminder - uncheck it. I have found that this
prevents a valid vcard being sent.

That only applies to recipients who use Outlook 2000 - a known bug.
