Invitations to users with earlier versions of Outlook

I have Outlook 2007, and whenever I send out an invitation to someone with an
older version, they receive an email with a bunch of garbage in it instead of
a proper invite.

How do I fix this?

does set a reminder in the appointment - add it after its sent.
