Invisible network drives

Hello,

I have a strange problem with some new PC running under Windows XP.

There is a logon script, that maps network drives for each user. On some
computers we have now the problem, that the network drives becomes randomly
invisible in the explorer, but in the 'disconnect network drives' window,
they appear normally. If the user has now an document opened on a network
drive while it becomes invisible, he's unable to save on this drive, and has
to manually disconnecting the network drives and to restart the PC.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks in advance,

Ralf

if I'm not mistaken (I'm sure someone will tell me :>)

you need to add the /persistent switch when mapping the drives

It doesn't make a difference, if I make the network drives persistent
or not.

The drives are mapped, but just not visible in the explorer. But you
can still access them, if you type in the adress-box their drive
letter.

I have the MS "Powertoys for Windows XP" program and use TWEAKUI to turn
on/off display of certain drives.... could that maybe be what has
happened? - that those drive letters are set to not display despite being
assigned?

Thanks for the hint with the Powertoys Paul, but it didn't correct my
problem. The invisible drives are marked to be displayed. It was not
possible to make them visible again in the explorer using TWEAKUI.

Another strange thing is, that if I use the Open-Dialogue from Word to
open a document, I can see the drives, that are not visible in the
explorer.

Any other ideas ???

I've found a solution for this problem, but I don't know why it works.

You simply have to open a command prompt and to disconnect all network
drives with these 2 commands.

net use /persistent:No
net use * /delete /yes
net use (to verify, if all drives are disconnected)

After a logoff/logon the logon-script mapped all network drives
correctly, and all drives are visible in the explorer. Until now, the
PC's where I disconnected drives like this, didn't lose their network
drives again.

Thanks to all for their help.

(1) At the command prompt, I typed: net use
It looked like nothing happened.
(2) In Explorer/Tools I selected Disconnect Network Drive and the result
was something like "There are no disconnected drives."

I went back to My Network Places, and all my previously invisible drives
were now visible. I don't know if this was as a result of (1) or (2).

Hi ... Have you try rebooting your computer and see if that works ? Or you
can also try it in safe mode as well and see if that works
