invisible group

what make a local security group invisible from compmgmt.msc?

As local Administrator, I expanded the local users and group-> groups, I
can't find it there
if I try to recreate the same group, it will complain about the group
already exist

question:
- how can I make the group visible again?
how could it have been hidden?
is there some sort of command line that will allow me to see/manipulate
membership the group?

tried Google but so far no luck

My guess is that you have an existing "User" account with the same name,
users and groups cannot have identical names.

Try with the NET command:

net localgroup groupname /delete

Is the machine joined to a domain?

yes, the pc is part of the domain but the invisible local group is only
local and does not exist on the DC
