I have a copy of Partition Magic (by PowerQuest) that I used on an old Win95
machine several years ago. When I moved to XP I thought that just maybe it
would work there as well. All attempts to intall it properly on my XP
failed. But the attempt left residual trash in the affected folders as well
as the registry even after uninstalling what little there was/wasn't of it
through "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. I found what
remaining pieces of the program that I could in the registry and elsewhere
and manually deleted them. But now a message pops up occasionally (not
every time) when I reboot the system asking me to register the nonexistent
PowerQuest program. How can I get rid of that message??

Have you searched in the registry for any references to Powerquest and
partition magic?

A registry cleaner might help. This one will let you decide what to remove
http://www.elings.com/tools/RegCleaner.exe . Install it, run it and look
for references to PowerQuest or Partition Magic. Check the box next to the
app to remove. The app is freeware. I've used it extensively with XP and no
problems have come from using it.

I used the program you suggested and found a program in startup called
"PowerReg Scheduler". I deleted it and have not been bothered with the
registration program since then (YET).

Thanks
