Invalid keycode

I just bought an HP Pavilion desktop about a month ago. Wondows Vista was
alread installed on it and I did not receive a backup disk or anything like
that with my purchase. A few days ago after I logged onto my computer a
message popped up stating "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you
typed is invalid for activation." My options are to retype the product key,
use my computer w/o Vista (I can only acess the internet), or have the HP
people help me. I do not have any sort of product key and the HP people
won't help. I have tried validating Vista but it says my version is not
genuine w/ the code [0xC004C4A8]. I have tried a system restore and several
self-help type sites and nothing has worked. What on earth can I do to fix
this problem?

take it back to the seller and claim a refund as its not fit for the purpose
you bought it for

your Vista product key will more than likely be on a sticker on the back of
your computer. find it and enter it. If it won't validate, select the
activate by phone option and call Microsoft. If you don't have a product
key on the machine, or didn't get a disk with the computer, than you most
likely got a pirated copy and should definitely try and ge3t your money
back.

Lynne;
What reason did HP give for not helping you?
If the computer is new and in warranty, they have to help.

Look on the bottom, back and sides for the Product Key.
If there is no Product Key anywhere, return to seller IMMEDIATELY.

Thank you to everyone who posted. I was able to find the keycode (on the
back of the computer). I had to use the phone option of activating and
validating Vista. I really appreciate your help.

Glad to know you solved your problem.
Hopefully the phone call was short.

Too bad she had to go through all this in the first place. Why would that
have happened with a new system preloaded with Fista?

Love and Kisses,
Doris

What is "Fista"?

And why do you ask me?
You should ask the computer manufacturer.
