My first post: on start-up, I get a pop-up window that says "Invalid ERS
version" that I click "OK" that is followed by another pop-up window that has
no text message but I click "OK". Clicking "OK" makes the pop-up go away
OK, but this is getting old. Anyone know what this is all about and how I
can fix this?

Thanks,
Tim in Tallahassee

What are you running at startup? Googling for "Invalid ERS version" only
brings me your post and this link about ASF Apache:

If the post from the Covalent blog doesn't help, we'd need a lot more
information about your system and the history of the problem to help
you. These links will show you what details to include in your next post
for more focused help:

Hi Malke, thanks for replying. Here are some details on what I am running:

Sony Vaio VGN-FZ190 laptop, 2.2 ghz, 2 mb ram, Vista Ultimate, 3 months old,
no viruses or malware (that I know of). Here are the programs at start-up
(according to Windows Defender list):

Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba
Promatek Industries Ltd LaserTrak Pro (allows me to print to office copier)
Microsoft stuff (IntelliPoint, Media Center Tray Applet, Userinit Logon
Applicaton, Explorer, host process, Windows Media Player Network Sharing
Service Configuration, Windows Sidebar, Windows Mobile Device Center,
Defender)
Entice.exe (I have no idea what this is)
ISB Utility (Sony)
Vaio Camera Utility
Symantec LiveUpdate Notice
Symantec Security Technologies
Java (TM) Platform SE 6 U3
Alps Pointing-device Driver
Adobe Acrobat
Acro tray (acrobat distiller helper application)
Apple Quick time

Thanks for any help you might provide!

Tim, did you just un-install a program? Sometimes when a program doesn't
un-install properly, upon boot-up, Windows tries to load the program and
looks for files that are no longer there.

The Entice.exe belongs to QuickBooks' SimpleStartEntice and doesn't need
to be running at startup. It doesn't look like you have anything bad, so:

1. Answer the First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between
the time things worked and the time they didn't?

2. If the problem always existed and/or you can't think of anything that
changed, do clean-boot troubleshooting which will help identify the
culprit. Then contact the makers of the culprit's software, or if
appropriate, just stop it from running at startup.

I did uninstall some programs before this began occurring, so that might be
it! How can I ferret out what this thing is? I am not sure I can even tell
what I un-installed at this point. This Sony came with lots of programs that
I just did not want and so I deleted them. Thanks! Tim
