invalid boot.ini

Hi

I'd appreciate any assitance to resolve the message "invalid boot.ini" we
get on booting up Win 2k Pro.

Ive read that I should try a repair install but the odd thing is Windows
recovery doesnt seem to recognise the existence of the current installation.

Does anyone know why that would occur? Indeed how is that even possible when
we clearly do run Win2K Pro.

Thanks for any info and your time.

Make a boot floppy and try booting with it. Once booted you can fix the
necesseray files. Instructions for creating floppy are shown here:
http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/ntboot/

Keep in mind that on Windows 2000 by default the installation folder is
WINNT so you will have to change the all the references to WINDOWS= in
the Boot.ini file to WINNT= Also, as stated in the instructions, you
have to create the floppy with an NT based pc, not a W9x!

Or use the Recovery Console and edit/replace the boot.ini file. Or yet,
if you have an Emergency Repair Disk use it to inspect and repair the
Startup Environment.

Click Start / Run / notepad c:\boot.ini {OK}, then
paste the contents of this file into your reply.

A WAG but the default= line is probably missing or invalid.
