invalid boot.ini

After installing SP2 I am getting an error message before the appearance of
windows,
"invalid boot.ini file."
"booting from C/:windows"
and then windows starts normally
Any ideas anyone?

That's just the point; there is no boot.ini. I've checked everywhere.

Start..run..msconfig and click the boot.ini tab. You can see it there.
