Invalid Boot.ini file

When I startup my computer, I get an error message saying invalid Boot.ini
file, booting from C:\Windows.

I went looking for the Boot.ini file, but there isn't one!

How can I fix this??

Yes, there is. It's in the root folder. You can't see it because
you haven't turned off the default not to show hidden files.

In My Computer, click Tools | Folder Options, and, on the View
tab, check the radio button "Show hidden files and folders."

Go to Start/Run and type msconfig and press OK. Click the Boot.ini Tab.
Click the "Check all boot paths" button to which will identify any problems
in that file. Post beck here with the results.

Which makes it very invalid indeed! The boot is falling back on a best
guess of where the Windows folder is, and getting it right. Set the
BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead of Setup,
take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password requested is
blank, and TAB over.

Give
BootCfg /Rebuild
to reconstruct it

i do this and i gat an error that it has failed because of the corrupt file
system which prevents bootcfg from successfully scaning.
can anyone help me please
