Pictures on sites are not visible,a small red cross is
there instead and if I right click it and click show
picture I get it.
Also my aol home page has bits of the writing on some
sections cut off, as if the window is too small

Clear the IE cache. I.E./Tools/Options/General/Delete files (and delete
offline content.) It's often recommended that the Temporary Internet Files
(folder) be kept at
40-50 MB. Bigger isn't necessarily better.
