I have a computer in which operating system is windows 98 SE , Network Card
is there and modem is there. Computer is working fine and the internet is
also working fine from here.

I have another computer in which Windows XP Professional is installed, only
Network card is there and there is no modem.

By the help of Cross Cable connection I am able to connect both the computer
and sharing the file and printer. the sharing resources is working fine from
both end.

BUT I am unable to share the Internet. I tried a lot to do the setting from
XP but failed.

Please advise what setting should I do on the windows XP PC , so that I can
share the internet which is running on Windows 98SE PC.

Thanks and best regards.

Not sure how your network is set up, but I have had an XP
system on the web with a DSL modem, no problem.
What you didn't make clear was whether your Internet hook up
is DSL or cable.

AT any rate, my DSL modem has a usb port on the back, aside
from the Ethernet connection.

Once I got my main machine (XP ) hooked up successfully on
the web (everything worked) via the Ethernet connection, I
installed the 98 machine as the "2nd" or "add-on" computer,
ran the modem install s/w on the 98 machine,

and then hooked the 98 machine to the DSL modem with a usb
port on the 98 machine.

I have also installed the 98 machine as the "main computer"
for DSL purposes. Both worked just fine.

Hope that helps.

I've also done the above with both computers as XP
computers.

What I have NOT managed to do-- even with the 2 computers
"networked to one another', is to use the "network' hookup
for Internet connection sharing.

If you are running a dial-up modem, I am not sure how to
help with that.

Good luck!

Is this a dialup connection or broadband? If broadband, the easiest way
is to buy a router (Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, etc.) and connect both
machines (straight-through cable) to the router.

If this is dialup, see these links:
