When i do a search in google and select one of the web page links from the
results list it directs me to another search engine and not the page i wanted.

I guess this is some sort of spyware but i have uptodate Norton Antivirus
and it cannot find it.

Can someone help me get rid of this.

Incidentally - i have tried using restore to go back in time but it says it
cannot restore to any restore points it has.

Please help !

Try Spybot S&D or another spyware remover. I use Spybot and its Tea
Timer utility.

You probably have a malware infection.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Norton antivirus, as its name implies, is an anti-virus program, and not an
anti-spyware program. An anti-virus program alone is not adequate
protection. You need three kinds of security software to protect you:

1. A firewall

2. An anti-virus program

3. Two or more anti-spyware programs (one isn't good enough).

Moreover, as anti-virus programs go, Norton is probably the worst choice
available.

To solve your immediate problem, I recommend that you go to Malke's Malware
Removal site at
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware and follow
the instructions there.
