Internet restriction on peer-to-peer

Confused Ken

I have a friend whose small office network and computer
maintenance I perform. They have peer-to-peer network of 8
computers and want to have Internet access limited to only
3 users and restrict other 5. All the computers are using
XP home or XP Pro. The Internet connection is from Bell
high speed and via a Nexland router. Anyone with
suggestions? I'll really appreciate.

The best and easiest way would be to restrict access at the router for
computers via IP address. You would either have to assign static IP adresses
to all the computers or possibly just those that you want to give access and
deny the rest. To do it effectively on a user basis would require something
like Microsoft ISA proxy server used as the gateway which is not cheap or
the easiest to configure. There are also personal firewalls such as
PortsLock that can have different settings per logged on user. --- Steve
