Hi,

Thanks!

You can use pretty much any MP3 Player (Winamp@ http://www.winamp.com
, Apollo by Heiki@ http://www.hut.fi/~hylinen/apollo/ , Quintessential
Player@ http://beta.quinnware.com/index.php , etc) to play internet
radio streams listed at http://www.shoutcast.com . (I used BOOMBox
Internet Radio Player, available from http://www.jajsoft.com , to
enumerate the Shoutcast list without having to open a browser. It's
very handy, and even includes a favorites feature.)

If you're referring to a specific radio station, then you may need
something like Real Alternative@
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=1054136293 which
includes the Real codecs, a multimedia player capable of handling Real
files, as well as plugins for different browsers.

If you're referring to a service like Spinner/Radio@Netscape, then you
might be out of luck, because I am not aware of any free, ad-free
services or front-ends. But, with all the other options, who needs
Radio@Netscape anyways? :)

Quintessential Player
http://beta.quinnware.com/index.php

Shoutcast Lister plugin for Quintessential Player
http://beta.quinnware.com/list_plugins.php?plugin=64
(homepage: http://musiclivesonline.com/software/qcdsclister.html )

SCLister puts Shoutcast mp3 streams just a mouse click away. If you want
to listen to Shoutcast streams this plugin is a must.

Many other plugins avaliable as well, from visual to input to output types.

Note: I know the site seems Beta ( http://beta.quinnware.com/index.php )
but thats only because its in a constant state of enhancement.

I have been using it for years and not had a problem, its my No.1
program for playing ALL FILE TYPES Audio & visual.

I recently discovered http://Live365.com/ which offers a wide range of
stations which can use WMP and RealPlayer but also offers a free player.
There seems to be an occasional pop-up ad which can be avoided (I listened
for an hour with only one ad which I did not notice until I logged off) and
there seems to be no spyware (no attempt to phone home).

I discovered the above via one of its stations at http://www.dismuke.org/
which has the kind of music I like.

This doesn't quite meet your specifications but you might find it worth a
look.

In regards to the prior response about using BOOMBox
Internet Radio Player, available from http://www.jajsoft.com:

This application does indeed phone home to pop up adds. It places a
file in the windows directory (smss.exe), launches it at startup and
starts popping up adds.

I have no problem with that sort of thing as long as the software is
above-board about it. But these jerks gave it the same name as a
valid windows process (the session manager subsystem, which is
responsible for starting the user session). The description attached
to the phone home executable is "ClientServerRuntimeSubSystem".
Above-board? Not quite.

Hi Frank,

I've been subscribed to http://Live365.com for many months. I just
wasn't able to get WMP 6 to play the music! For some reason, I'm
avoiding WMP 9. Probably because, I read on one of the
privacy/spyware groups that it creates a unique user ID. So..
upgraded to WMP 7.01 and downloaded 'ID Blaster' to randomize the
Product ID(s).
Maybe I'm somewhat paranoid, after reading about spyware, malware,
trojans, apps that phone home, cookies. etcetera.
I'm going to try http://Live365.com's free player out. They have a
station that broadcasts 24 hours of John Cipollina music including
Quicksilver (my fav band) and, I've yet to be able to hear it! Guess
you can tell I'm not computer savvy. Thanks!)

Regards,

Joe
