Internet Options shutdown from Explorer

Sandra

Suddenly I cannot get to Internet Options from Explorer
(They are still available via the control panel) The
message comes up "This operation has been cancelled due
to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please
contact you system administrator." I am the main
administrator. I can get to this option if I log into the
only other admin account on this machine. I am running xp
pro. How can I get this back?

Hi

Most likely the work a worm or similar (it could be from some spyware or
parasite as well).

Copy and paste the URL address lines into your IE address bar:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

and import the registry files under the following lines:

225. Restore Folder Options/Internet Options
268. Restore All Tabs under Internet Options

More about this registry values here:

Internet Explorer Toolbar Restrictions

To try to find what has caused this:

Run a cleanup tool, e.g. Stinger.exe from McAfee, it removes 30+
virus/worms in one sweep.

McAfee AVERT Stinger

For the Spyware and Parasites part, you will need to run other tools:

Hi

Is your spybot up to date?

It wouldn't hurt to do the rest anyway....

I did it all and nothing finds anything, and yet
SOMETHING happened from SOMEWHERE and it WASN'T me. So do
you know how up-to-date the "Dealing with Unwanted.... "
site is? The info looks good. How much of it do you do?

Well, strange things happen ;-) As long as it doesn't happen again, I don't
think it is too much to worry about.

I think it is pretty up-to-date. I don't do anything of it really, but then I
am careful about what I install and what I accept to click on/install while
browsing the Internet (but I have run SpyBot and Ad-Aware with nothing alarming
showing up).
