Internet not accessible in IE7, Outlook and Mail but works in FireFox

Hi all,

As a software developer I have generally been disappointed in Vista, as it
had very poor support for Visual Studio and SQl Server. Now I am having
another problem with it, on a new Dell Dimension.

I can use FireFox on that machine for web surfing with no problem.

However, IE7, Outlook 2007 and MS Mail have stopped working with the
internet... cannot make any connections with websites, newsgroups or mail
servers.

When I run the network diagnostic from IE (after it says "Cannot
connect...") it reports that there are no problems found!

I have done a bunch of searching for answers and have found none that fix
the problem.

Any help will be appreciated.

BTW I am the IT Manager at a small company and have worked with computers
and PCs for 16 years, including DOS based machines and IBM mainframes. I
have not ever encountered such problems as I am seeing since I upgraded my
PC at home to a Vista Ultimate model.

I refuse to upgrade any of our 30 PCs at the office to Vista. I will stay
with XP for at least another year or 2. I don't really see any advantage to
Vista... especially from a Software Developer's standpoint.

Thanks to all in advance...

Did you install a 3rd party firewall? My son just had that problem and I
found that somehow, I.E. was blocked by the firewall. A five second fix was
all it took.

Hi John,

Check out Delphi 2007 for Vista development. It runs well in Vista,
and produces Vista compatible applications. It used to be by Borland,
which at time was Inprise, but is Borland again, but now Delphi is by
CodeGear, a wholly owned subsidery of Borland. Try www.CodeGear.com
for info.

Thanks Richard..

That might be the problem. I had some trouble installing Panda IS 2007 then
uninstalled it. Then I went to the 2007 version of Norton AV but had
problems there also.

Both of those products claim to be Vista compatible, but apparently not.

I still can't figure out why Firefox works just fine and Microsoft's own
products are having issues.

Oh well...

Well I found a fix for IE7 and Microsoft Mail not being able to connect to
the Internet in Windows Vista Ultimate.
It's called Mozilla.
I installed Mozilla Thunderbird and now along with Firefox I have an email
client and browser that both work just fine on Vista even though IE7 and
Microsoft Mail ar both broken.

I have removed any 3rd party firewalls and did a complete scan with Norton
AV 2007 which also detects spyware and browser hijackers.

I hear number of people complaining about the same or similar problems with
the Microsoft products on Vista.
I wish that MS wasn't in such a rush to put out a new OS just to make more
revenue.
