I am using XP with IE 6.0 Sp1.

Certain simple web pages hang up trying to download and
display small gif files. The gif files are certainly
present and sometimes they come down after a long wait.
Sometimes they are just displayed as broken links.
Netscape 7.1 has no problem with these, displaying them
in a flash every time.

Also, other computers on my LAN have no problem with
these web pages using IE or netscape.

This problem seems to be limited to certain web pages,
not all or even most pages with gif images.

Any advice on how to proceed?

Empty your cache, in IE, tools, Internet Options, delete files.
