internet gets very slow

Hi, I am having a problem when connecting to the
internet. When I first connect, the connection is very
fast and works great. However, after about five minutes
it suddenly gets extremely slow and then stops working at
all. I use 56k dial up from a Dell Lattitude laptop with
Windows XP. I use Explorer and Netscape Navigator and
have the same problem with both. Additionally, I have
two different internet connctions and I have the same
problem with each. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks,
