Someone pressed my (WinXPSP2) PC power button by mistake while I was working
on my computer, and thus shut down the PC. Ever since, the Internet Gateway
Device icon doesn't show up anymore. I knew these things were brittle, but I
had no idea they were that fragile. Anyway, I tried everything to get the
damn' icon back, to no avail. Even tried to reinstall IGDDC, no use. Does
that mean that my only hope is to do a clean WINXP install? It can't be that
bad, can it?

Try disabling UPnP in the Router's (Gateway's) Interface then re-enabling
UPnP.

That's an interesting idea, and I can certainly do that, though I'm
wondering why it would have an effect since it's not the gateway/router that
crashed, it's the PC... Anyway, I'll try that, thanks.

Okay, disabling and re-enabling the UPnP in the Gateway settings did it!!
Thanks a bunch!! Cheers!!!

You're welcome.

Well, here's a new twist: after a while the icon disappears, and I have to
repeat the whole "disabling and re-enabling the UPnP in the Gateway" drill
all over again, which is not very convenient. The icon also doesn't show up
after rebooting the PC (unless, of course, I do the UPnP drill after reboot).

There's gotta be smth. rotten with my PC. Should I reinstall the network
cards? Should I reinstall the wholenetworking sectionof WinXP?

It is obvious that there's something rotten with my PC. Should I reinstall
the network cards? Should I reinstall the whole networking section of WinXP?
Should I attempt to repair WinXP? (Has that ever worked?)
