internet explorer

how come when i go to help > about internet explorer,
next to the version, there is nothing. it doesnt tell you
what version of microsoft internet explorer you have. i
tried installing internet explorer 6 onto my windows XP
but says there is a newer version of internet explorer.
can someone help me?

Windows XP includes IE 6 and you should not try to install any
downloaded version, except perhaps its SP1 if you have not installed
Windows XP SP1.
