Dan

Hi there,

I hope someone can help me as I am beginning to tear out my hair!

My internet explorer program and shortcuts have all ceased working. Whenever
I try to access the internet the 'page cannot be found' etc screen appears.

However I do know that this is nothing to do with my internet connection as
I can log into MSN messenger and check my outlook emails etc and I can
access the internet through a google updater program. Can anyone assist as
to why there is this problem and how to solve it. Any assistance would be
greatfully received.

Thanks

Hi, Dan!
I have much the same problem, but only
when I put my computer in "standby" mode.
Have you tried unplugging your computer
and waiting about 5 minutes?
I would also like to know what causes this
problem.
Regards,
Ray Steiner

Dan:

I can't help, but I'm going through the exact same thing. It's the most
frustrating thing. I cannot type in any address into the address bar. Comcast
tells me it's an Explorer thing, but I can't seem to fix it. Please let me
know if someone gets back to you. I've wasted hours on this problem.

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015 (15 Apr-06)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-015
Vulnerability in Windows Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution
(908531)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx has
been revised to v1.2 to reflect the issues in KB918165.
From the FAQ section:
"On Tuesday, April 25, Microsoft will issue a targeted re-release of
the MS06-015 update."

Now may not be the time to learn Regedit.
I suggest you use a .reg file already done for the purpose.

http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads/KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip

Unzip it, extract the .reg file to a folder, right-click it and select
Merge and confirm when asked.

Hi MeesaJean,
I don't think that you and Dan have the exact same problem. Your problem is
possibly being caused by the MS06-015 Update, released on April 11.

If you have HPs Share to Web software installed, download and run the VBS
file "HP's Share-to-Web software - Fix " at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 383.

Some NVIDIA video drivers are also involved.

If Share to Web is not installed, that fix doesn't work, NVIDEA drivers may
be the problem or simply to read more, see:
http://www.aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=19125

Hope this helps,
Don
