How can I know if I have the IE service pack 1 installed? If not how can I
install it.

If you have the My Computer icon on your desktop, right-click it and
then left-click on Properties. If you don't have this, go to the System
applet in Control Panel and open it. On the General page you will see
your operating system and under it whatever Service Pack you have. If
you don't have Service Pack 1, you should just go immediately to
Service Pack 2 since SP2 is incorporated into SP2. However, please take
all necessary precautions before installing SP2. Here are some links to
