I have an XP that had A LOT of spyware loaded on it (2,418) that Adaware
detected. Spybot found about 50 after that. I am unable to connect to the
internet thru IE, but thru AOL's interface I can. I installed Maxthon to see
if I would be able to use another browser but it's giving me the same results
as IE. They don't give any error message, they just stay blank and never
complete the connection. It's updated with McAfee and has been scanned. I've
eleminated some of the things that I figured would not do any good that
HijackThis found.

Is this something that has a simple solution to or am I in for some serious

Dump AOL (more scumware) and your IE will work again. I recommend a reformat
and clean install to make sure you get all the AOSmell crap off your
computer.

Open up msinfo32.exe, expand components, networking and then highlight
protcol, if the first thing you see in the name column starts with
SAHAGENT, then you still got some spyware in your networking stuff, if
you got sp2 just run "netsh winsock reset" if it's pre sp2 go to
support.microsoft.com and look up article 811259 (problem description is
different, same resolution..)

Another thing easy to do here to try is to shut your computer down and turn
off your cable modem (if it has a button to turn off the conenction),
disconnect the cable from the back of your computer and unplug the modem
from the socket, then restart your computer and get Windows open and then
power off again, wait about a minute, then plug everything back in again and
fire her up again.
