Internet Explorer with EWF RAM REG mode

Hello

i use EWF in RAM REG mode on drive C:. Now there is a problem with the
internet explorer. I set the maximum size for temporary internet files to
18MB. But after every website i browse with the internet explorer the value
for the "memory used for data" shown in the ewfmgr c: shows a bigger value.
And because i have only 256MB of ram memory after some time the memory is
full and i get an error message stating that there is not enough memory.
After a restart when the EWF RAM overla is restored to default everythings
runs fine again.

How can i limit the memory usage of the internet explorer with the EWF RAM
Reg? Because our application need the IE it is not practicable that the IE
causes this not enough memory error.

M. Fernahl,

There are some known issues with IE 6 (I believe this is what you've got in your image, right?) where its cache can grow infinitely
in some test cases. The issue is "documented" in MS Knowledge base.
I have been able to repro the issue many times, however I had to do dome special steps for it. My point is that in regular IE use
the cache doesn't grow very much over the limit set up.

In any case, for us it's always been the best to not rely on IE for cleaning up the cache (Temp Inet files) or keep it under the
limit. What we did was a ramdisk setup where all the temp files were redirected to. The size of the ramdisk could be the hard limit
for the IE cache.
However, that cache was obviously per session and gone every machine reboot. Don't know if this is acceptable for your target.

Another solution we developed was rather sophisticated suite around MS IE to monitor and control the IE cache to keep it the way we
wanted. This of course required some programming skills and knowledge of some hacking tricks to be able to get inside the app on
fly.
