When i click on a link within an e-mail or on some websites, the pc seems to
lock up ('no response'), then shuts internet explorer down. This also happens
when i have tried to access pdf file via Adobe. Can anyone assist?

I suspect...

Malware Cleaning:

After that look for poorly coded plug-ins.

BHODemon 2.0:

One thing to note is that you'll be able to boot to safe mode without
networking, load IE - it will complain about not connecting - and from there
you can probably go ahead and see what plug-ins are enabled or you can just
use the above application...

Finally...

How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express:

Thanks, Galen,

Unfortunately, while the malware cleaning may have worked, the BHODemon link
was not available. The site is now static, as the author is not doing
anymore at the moment.

I may, after all, have to reinstall the software that came on the PC.

Any further assistance/ advice would be appreciated from you or anyone else.

You can scroll down and use the latest version of BHODemon. That works just
fine with the current builds of IE. There really is not much the developer
could do to keep working on it really, the application is, pretty much, done
as it is.

Did the malware scans pick anything up? If not then (after checking the
plug-ins/BHOs) you can/should consider a repair installation of IE first
before a whole repair installation or a complete reformat.
