Internet Explorer settings

Greetings:

I'm pretty sure these two issues have already been covered but I've
only been using Windows XP SP1 for about a month, the lenght of time
I've owned my new PC, and unless I can find a website with an archive
of the messages for this group, I'll just have to ask these two
questions again.

Anyway, How to I get Internet Explorer to save my settings when I
turn the PC off? Each time I turn on my PC and open IE, it has
reverted to the factory or default settings. The main problem is with
the tool bars under the "View" option. I keep turning off toolbars
called "Links" and "HP View" because I have no use for them and
turning on my "GuardIE" toolbar. However, as I said, each time I
turn the PC off at the end of the day or at the end of a session, and
turn it back on at the start of another session, I have to go through
that process all over just to get the tools I want close at hand. I
don't recall this problem coming up in Windows 98.

Another problem that did occur in Windows 98 and is still occurring
in Windows XP is the sizing problem. Internet Explorer won't open in
a "Maximized" state. There was a way to force it open in full screen
in Windows 98 but the same procedure doesn't seem to work in Windows
XP.

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can provide.

For the toolbar problem...
Compaq/HP? go to
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFAQ.htm
Scroll down to
16 Internet Explorer Toolbar settings are not saved

Window size:
Right-click the shortcut you use to open IE> Properties> Run> Maximized. You
may have to create your own shortcut to IExplore.exe. The IE icon that's
placed on the desktop by Windows/IE isn't a standard shortcut.
Or, one of these freeware programs should help:
AutoSizer 1.4- http://www.southbaypc.com/AutoSizer/
IE New Window Maximizer http://www.jiisoft.com/iemaximizer/index.htm

The tricky part can be finding the proper newsgroup to search, but you're
using a real newsreader, Agent, so that shouldn't be a problem for you.

Don

Right click the toolbar and uncheck Lock Toolbars.
Make your changes.
Lock the toolbars again.

Open such a window.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window.

The steps in the URL at the http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFAQ.htm
website took care of the toolbar issue (unchecking Autokit.exe) and
the tips on re-sizing IE took care of the other problem.

Thanks for all of the good information folks.
