Internet Explorer Script Error

Hi, I get this error when I try to change settings on my
Norton Antivirus program:

Internet Explorer Script Error
An error has occured in the script on this page.
Line: 12
Char: 3
Error: Unspecified Error
Code: 0
URL: res://C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\NAVOpts.dll/optionsbtm.htm
Do you still want to continue running scripts on this page?

When I select yes or no, nothing happens. What could be
the problem and how could I fix it? Right now I have no
confidence that Norton Antivirus is protecting my computer
like it's suppose to.

[This error was the end result of some investigating that
I started when Norton Antivirus's live-update (for virus
definitions, etc) wouldn't work. I manually downloaded the
virus definitons, scanned my computer but Norton Antivirus
didn't complete. So I then uninstall and reinstall Norton
Antivirus and was setting up the program up to this error.
I uninstall and reinstall again and this error didn't go
away. It also seems that live-update is already running in
the background because when i click on live-update and
manually end the process via taskmanager because it hangs,
I seem to get an indication that another live-update is
falsely/truely running because I have to end the process
again.]

I am using Win2000Pro SP4, IE6.0 SP1. Thanks in advance.

I am having this exact same problem myself. Apparently, you are not the only one J. Unfortunately, it also seems apparent that nobody seems to be able to tell us what is causing this problem. I wish one of the MVP's had an answer for us because this is really getting frustrating to say the least. I've been trying to fix it myself for over 3 months now!!!

The question was asked in the wrong group.

Modified from Frank Saunders' post of a few days ago over in
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser:

1. First try deleting your Temporary Internet File cache. If that
doesn't work:

2. Refresh your scripting engine. Go here and download/install
Microsoft Windows Script v5.6 (for Win2K):
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp

After installation, reboot when prompted and:

3a. Start/Run/Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

3b. Start/Run/Regsvr32 jscript.dll

If you STILL have problems:

4. Re-register all DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

5. See also:
Error Message When You Browse the Web: An Error Has Occurred in the Script
on This Page
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306831

5a. IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>Enable third-party browser
extensions (uncheck & reboot).

5b. Find the hijacker that caused 5a to be checked (or if none were checked,
check for hijackware anyway):
