I just reinstalled xp from a clean slate and since then when I open up
Internet Explorer it just sits there for about 1 min doing nothing. I never
had this problem before. I have dsl, it has always loaded a page right after
I opened it up. There are no programs loaded on the computer other then xp. I
tried 2 different ethernet cards. I have also changed the security setting in
internet explorer to nothing, and the default firewall is disabled. Cashe and
cookies have been cleared. I have also tried changing recieve and transmit
buffers. Still no difference. Can someone please help???????

After you installed XP, did you install all the drivers for your
hardware? If so, then run the Network Setup from the Connections tab in
Internet Options>Tools. You probably want the PPPoE connection with the
username/password but you'll have to check with your ISP for specifics.

Just tried what? Did you install the drivers for your motherboard and
other hardware? Perhaps your ISP has specific settings you must make.
Call them.

First log in to your Modem's web interface and check that your
connection to your ISP is operating correctly. Next check your
IP configuration on the NIC. Test ping from your IP back to the
modem, then outward to a test site (DSLReports.com) that will
accept Ping packets. Changing buffers wouldn't affect a general
connection issue. Make sure you have no Proxy server setup or
defined. In IE run the connection Wizard to tell it to use a BBand
connection that is always on. Reset the Security zones to the
"Default" settings. Also check the Windows Firewall settings to
make sure no normal operations have been blocked/altered.

For what it's worth, I have the exact same problem with IE on my
machine. Mozilla works fine, no problems accessing web sites, but IE
just sits there. I'm using AVG (no viruses) and Zonealarm (IE is
allowed).

The main reason I want IE is for windows updates, which MS (in its
monopolistic actions) will not grant from Mozilla or Netscape (haven't
tried other browsers).

I even tried the XP repair and wasted about an hour for it to not fix
the problem.

I'd also appreciate a proven method to solve this problem. Perhaps,
how to uninstall IE6 so I can reinstall it.

Many thanks for any help.

I had just tried running the connection wizard. All the drivers are
installed. The dsl modem is working fine, I get an immediate responce when I
ping anything within my network, but as soon as I try something out of it, it
takes a while. I have tried using foxfire and I have the same problem still.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the nic, used different version drivers,
and still no difference. I have tried everything that I know, and I have
alot, I use to be a network admin. So anything basic and advanced has been
ruled out... Anyone else have any ideas???
