I use XP and IE v6 and have two computers on a home network. I am having
problems on one computer accessing certain URLs, no problems accessing same
URLs on the other computer. Specifically, I can access www.earth.google.com
and www.scholar.google.com on one computer but when trying to do so on the
other I am redirected to www.google.com. IE security settings are the same on
both computers. Can someone give me a lead where to look to overcome this
please?
TIA, .... Greg

Check C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc for a file named HOSTS with no
extension. (Not Hosts.sam)
Make sure Windows is set to show hidden files and folders and is NOT set to
hide extensions for known file types.
If HOSTS exists, rename it to HOSTS.OLD
Reboot an try again.

Or, In a Cmd window, enter
ipconfig /flushdns
then clear your TIF also, and re-boot.

Hi gvm :)

In addition to Frank's good advice, you might also try the following and see
if it helps:

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>Click Sites.
Enter each of the problem sites and click Always Allow

Add them to your Trusted Zone:
How to add a site to a Trusted Zone in Internet Explorer
http://surfthenetsafely.com/ieseczone7.htm

also...

Go to Start>Run>and register the following dll's by using
regsvr32 command. Try the first 2, then see if it resolves the problem. If
not then register the rest of the .dll's:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll

If that doesn't work, then check out the following article and do the
additional steps outlined there:

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You
Click a Link

also…...

Zone: Error Message or Nothing Happens When You Click a Web Link
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;236846

Also..disable any 3rd party toolbars, ad blockers, popup blockers, or other
software that might be blocking it and see if that resolves the problem.

Other possibilities:

Check your Security settings.
Check your Cookies folder and delete any cookies that relate to the
sites in question.

Hope this helps.
