hi everyone...
i have networked both our desktop and our laptop using the
XP Pro wizard.....all went well....until i tried to use
internet explorer on the second computer (the
laptop) ...no joy...it wont fully load, seems to stall
halfway through. I can use yahoo messenger, but not msn
messenger....yet everything works fine on the main
computer. Any help would be appreciated, remembering that
i am not a computer genius :( unfortunately

Thanks heaps

How do you connect to the Internet - router? ICS through 1st machine?
Dialup?

hi Doug

we connect to the internet through the first machine.....i
have run the Network Diagnostics, and it tells me that the
Internet Explorer Web Proxy failed, but i cant find any
instructions to change this...we are using the latest
version of Iternet Explorer.

Assuming you are using ICS, try:

1. Try manually configuring the laptop Local Area Connection TCP/IP
settings:

IP address = 192 .168.0.2
Gateway = 192.168.0.1
DNS = IP address of ISP's DNS server (you can discover
this by running ipconfig/all on the first machine.

2. Disable the firewall on the laptop.

3. Open Internet Explorer, click Tools/Internet Options/Connections tab.
Click Lan Settings button. Clear the check box for Automatically detect
setting and the Use proxy server box. If you cannot open Internet Explorer,
you can access these settings through Control Panel.
