Internet explorer on the desktop

Upon reading here and other help sites of information, it
seems I can clean out my temp internet files by right
clicking on the Internet Explorer icon on my desktop and
selecting properties and I will be brought to the Internet
properties box where I can do such a task (along with
other options). My desktop icon is a shortcut icon and
cannot do this function. How do I get a non-shortcut icon
on my desktop? I have found the target from my icon to
program files iexplorere.exe. If I right click and drag
to my desktop and select to copy it there I still get a
shortcut icon only on the desktop. If I go into the
display properties of what icons to put on my desktop, the
Internet Explorer is already checked. Tried taking off
and back on but I keep getting shortcuts only. Any
suggestions?

You could copy & paste iexplorere.exe to
C:\Documents and Settings\<login name>\Desktop
