Hi

We have 2 computers with XP Home. Within the last week
both started having IE problems. Both will not connect to
the internet any more.

Somewhere on the internet I read that I shud reset the IP
because right now both have IP starting with 169.

Tried doing that but unsuccessful. Please help.

What kind of connection are you using to get out to the
internet cable modem or DSL. When you have an IP address
starting with 169 and a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 you
have the default ip address provided by microsoft. This
means you are not getting to your DHCP server to get a ip
address.
Check to see if your cable modem or DSL is working
correctly, you could have a bad box this happens after a
electrical storm.
If the box is ok and the router or switch is OK try this.
power down your PCs then turn off your router or unplug it
if it does not have a switch. Power off your cable box
modem or DSL modem. wait two minutes then power up your
cable modem or DSL modem. Power up your router then power
up your PCs. If you still have the 169 ip address then go
to the command prompt and do a ipconfig /renew /all on
both PCs.
See if this works.
