Internet Explorer not responding

Whenever I try to put a new address in the address bar the computer just
hangs.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Also, when I use the search on the explorer toolbar it comes up with Sorry,
the page cannot be found

Any help will be appreciated.

Show the hidden files and folders Rightclick C:\Windows\Inf\srchasst.inf Click install. The required file is in ../I386 folder on
the XP CD
