Internet Explorer makes sound

My Internet Explorer 6 (XP Pro - SP 2) makes a sharp, loud, sound almost
everytime I open a new web site. I have disabled all the Windows sounds in
the Control Panel but that didn't stop it. I also tried disabling my Pop Up
blocker and that didn't stop it. The only way I can stop it is to mute my
speakers. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
