I have twice installed IE 6.x, Service Pack 1, along with
its associated utilities (Outlook Express, etc.).
Each time I have done so, everytime I try to use it, it
repeatedly and nearly constantly puts an error message on
the screen that "Internet Explorer has encountered a
problem and must close." When I allow it to do so, it then
restarts, runs for a short while, then repeats the same
thing. This has made it virtually useless to me. I have in
both cases, downgraded to IE 5.5, which works just fine.
I have no idea why IE 6.x does the above. But with the
latest security memo about upgrading, I thought I had best
find out, if I could. I have not been able to isolate any
specific pattern. Up to now, I have been satisfied to use
5.5, but it seems there are enough security holes in it to
justify the upgrade, if I can get it to work.
If anyone has had this experience, I would appreciate some
help or suggestions.
Thanks,
