Internet Explorer Freezing up on opening

Hello all.
Once in a while, I have an issue with IE6 freezing up shortly after opening.
Sometimes, the whole screen will not load and it freezes. Other times, I
click on links on the screen after it fully loads and it freezes up from
there.

When this happens, I do a system restore, and it usually works. Tonight, it
took a whole heck of a lot of system restores. I am not sure the restores
worked or not, but my computer is working.

Does anyone have any idea on why this happens occassionally and what i can
do to prevent it from happening again?

Thanks.
Dave

Frank - could it be something else? I have anti-virus software that I run
pretty religiously and it never finds anything.
I try and update IE6 and says it is ok.

No anti-virus I know of does a decent job of preventing spyware, adware,
etc.

Try being more precise about your symptom description?
"Freezing" is pretty vague. E.g. if it means that you have to reset
your computer because you have no keyboard or pointer control at all
it could suggest a problem with your video card or its video driver(s).
Etc.

ear Robert - I will try and describe in more detail.
From the previous post, when I click on the IE icon, it starts to load up
the Yahoo page. When it starts to do that, it can freeze at any point from
there. Usually about 60% of the page loads up and it stops.

I click on the "X" to end the program, and it appears to take forever for
anything to happen. I will eventually get the box in the middle of my screen
about ending the program, and I have to hit "yes" a bunch of times before it
will actually do it. Occassionally, I will need to bring up the task manager
and hit the "end task" a bunch of times.
I recall that other programs aside from IE freeze up or do not do as well.
The computer definetly goes into a "Slow mode" when this bug occurs. Once all
applications are closed out, I get some control back and that is when i do
the restore.
