Internet Explorer error

I can use some help troubleshooting IE. Periodically when I use IE, I get
the infamous error Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to
close, sorry for the inconvenience. When I look in the application Event Log
I see I am either generating a application error with an event 1000 or 1001.
It is a brand new Dell running XP Home with everything at the latest and
greatest. Dell support has been useless. Any help would be appreciated.

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type (or paste in): SFC /SCANNOW
