I keep getting an error that says
"MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND
NEEDS TO CLOSE. WE ARE SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE"

I hear that! I get the same message when I try to access
certain urls (ie: http://harrypotter.warnerbrothers.com ):
"Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

Then I clicked on the details and got this last time:

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName:
wmpdxm.dll
ModVer: 9.0.0.2980 Offset: 0001af9b

I don't have a clue what the deal is or how to fix this.
Hopefully someone will be able to help both of us out on
this.

Hey, we have the same problem. This began last
week for me. It's like an ON and OFF again tech.
glitch of some sort. It's getting real annoying.
Other times IE6 refreshes the page itself. Then
loads done, with a blank page of the previous.

Have you gotten any clues to fix or the cause etc.?

Robin, I think that this article has been misused as a general catch-all
for dealing with crashes which are reported by the Error Reporting Tool.
It seems to be about a very specific crash with an equally specific suggestion
for a workaround.

Extract from a previous post to JJ who made the same suggestion
to somebody with a similarly vague problem description:

("Henri's suggestion" was essentially to check for malware.)

<extract>

<title>KB293623 - Error Message: Microsoft Internet Explorer Has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close (Pdm.dll)</title>

To see the data that the error report contains, click the
<strong class="uiterm">click here</strong> link
at the bottom of the message box.
The following error signature information may appear:
....
Iexplore.exe various Pdm.dll 6.0.0.8169 0001259d
</quote>

JJ,

Zette hasn't given us enough information to make that suggestion very likely
to be useful. The key piece of information that we are missing
is the name of the module where the crash is occurring. It is much more
likely that the crash is occurring in Module: <unknown> or Module: mshtml.dll
or even kernel32.dll in which case other suggestions would be made.

Without that information Henri's guess is likely to be more useful.

Thanks for trying to help out.
