Internet Explorer error message

I need help to figure out why my IE keeps giving me an
error message on certain websites. Whenever I click to go
to the site, I keep getting this screen that says,

"Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://--
-.
Operation aborted."

Does anyone know what the deal is?

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS

That ain't it. Seems a bunch of us have the same issue
here. No hosts file, no NXDOMAIN replies.
