Internet Explorer error message upon opening browser.

When I try and open my browser (Internet Explorer Version
6) I get an error message:

"Iexplore Caused a Stack Fault in Module Kernel32.dll."

I tried to repair IE in the Add/Remove programs options (I
am not offered the option to unsinstall), I get the
following message:

"Internet Explorer cannot be repaired due to the following
errors:

Version 6.0.2715.400 of file SHDOCLC.DLL exists but the
version needs to be greater than 6.0.2800.100.

Version 6.0.2718.400 of file WININET.DLL exists, but the
version needs to be greater than 6.0.2800.1100."

Okay, I see the stupidity in my question about repairing
the thing, but how do I uninstall?

Thanks.

iphigenie,

It looks as if you have somehow forced on an update for IE6
while you actually had IE6sp1. If that is the case you might
be able to effect a repair by uninstalling that last update.
Make sure that that fixes your shdoclc.dll version problem.
BTW I don't know where you would have got that version
that it's looking for. FWIW I only have 6.0.2600.0 for it.
(shdocvw.dll is another matter entirely in case there was
a typo.)

Then you should go to Windows Update and get the latest
cumulative update for IE. For example, that would give you
version 6.00.2800.1400 of several core modules, including
shdocvw.dll and wininet.dll. However, if you wanted you could
also download 831167 which would give you version 6.00.2800.1405
of the latter module.
