Internet Explorer does not work

Hi,

I'm having a problem with internet explorer.


I have a Dell Inspiron notebook (Windows XP pro), I use firefox to
browse the internet but one day when I try to do the windows update
using internet explorer I got the "page cannot be displayed" message,
so I checked my internet connection and everything was fine, I open
firefox and it was working, Its just Internet explorer, I delete me
cookies and temporary internet files and restar internet explorer to
see if that helps but nothing,I also noticed that Norton internet
security cannot update the virus definitions, so I tryed to disable
norton internet security but still the same.
Would you please help me, I just want to make sure my OS is up to date
and protect my computer from viruses.

Try checking your internet connection settings (control panel, network an
internet connections, internet options, then select the connections tab).

I've had a similar problem for two days (and also problems using any
drop down menus in MS apps like IE, PowerPoint, Word, etc...) and
through a group on Google have determined using Event Viewer the exact
time that my problems started, also the same time when I got an
automatic update from MS of:
- Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP
(KB912812)
- Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - April 2006 (KB890830)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB911562)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB908531)

I spent all day today trying to fix with updates, but no go. I am ready
to explode. Can anyone tell me if the above can be "uninstalled?"

I have also experienced problems over the last couple days. My MS Word
(office 2000 premium) would not 'save as' and the right click 'explore' on
the start button got real flakey. I removed KB911562 and KB908531 an 4/18 and
solved the problems but they reloaded via automatic update today so I had to
remove them again and change my settings on automatic update to prevent these
two from loading again.

If you go to control panel + add/remove programs there is a check box at the
top right part of the page that allows you to "show updates" and remove these
little buggers.
