internet explorer does not fully open H-E-L-P!

This afternoon I tried to open IE6 and just the minimized
small box opened on my toolbar. I clicked it, nothing
happened. I right clicked it and chose Maximize... nothing
happened.

I re-booted.... no change.

So I uninstalled IE6 and rebooted. Then re-installed IE6
and selected all factory deaults in the setups. The same
problem. I tried to open IE6 and just the minimized small
box opened on my toolbar. I clicked it, nothing happened.
I right clicked it and chose Maximize... nothing happened.

So, being the computer genious I am, I re-installed
Windows 2000. I then downloaded all the updates critical
and non critical. Then Uninstalled IE6 and went to the
windows site and downloaded and installed the latest
version.

Same thing happens, IE6 will not fully open.

But here's the strange thing, I can get online by right
clicking on "start" and selecting "explore" and typing a
URL into the address bar. But not when I click IE6 Icon or
Toolbar Icon.

While I'm on the web (using the "explore" method), if I'm
using a site that tries to open another window, it just
places a small box at the bottom of the screen and the new
window never opens. Also when i click a link in my email,
the same thing happens, no screen opens and a small box
appears on the toolbar with the name of the file that
shold have opened.

I have Mcafee virus scan: no viruses (viri?) I also went
online and got Stinger and did a full check. No virus.

So, even though I have scoured the windows help files and
have been in computing since my first 8086 in 1983, I am
beaten.

I'm using a Dell p3 1.7ghz with windows 2000 and all the
latest updates.

ANYONE! Can you help me please?

I have seen this happen. In my case the browser window
has opened off screen. I don't know why or how it did.
The fix was to open the browser and right click on the
button on the taskbar and maximize the window. The
window then goes full screen and is good from there. I
then close the window (exit IE) and start it again and it
seems to be ok from then on.
