internet explorer crash

everytime i open up explorer after 4 or 5 seconds it will freeze on me and i have to control-alt-delete my way out of it which then causes the screen to stay up but not really be open which then i use another program window such as AIM for example to "erase" the screen which then "erases" my desktop as well...what the hell is happening?!
 
First, in common sense, did you install the correct version of Internet Explorer for your PC? If you did, then try to reinstall it. There is an article on Microsft Knowledge Base about how to do this.
