Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet Site (error message)

When opening some sites, I get the following:

Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet Site [site's
name}. Operation aborted

I cannot get into that site after clicking the X button.

Is there any way of finding out how to trouble shoot this
message (since little information is given)?
 
I recently encountered the same problem. Installed
Spybot 1.2 which removed some spyware that was installed
on my system, and the problem went away.
