Internet Explorer Address Bar

I am unable to move from the IE home page when clicking either in the IE
Address bar or clicking on the down arrow at the end of the address bar.
When I do this, I receive an hour glass and then a message appears in the
main title bar indicating it's Not Responding.

If I don't click on the address bar I can select an option from my Favorites
list and move about in that manner, at least for the sites I have tagged as a
favorite.

Does anyone have any ideas on why this is occurring and how I might fix it?
I have Norton Antivirus and Internet Security 2005 on my machine now. Thank
you.

Hi, I have a similar situation to yours. When I type in a web address
without the "http://", the page will not load. If I include the "http://"
the web page will load. This started happening for me after Automatic
Updates installed the latest updates from Microsoft...Is this when it started
happening to you also ?

LOL! You should be used to having a screwed up computer with NAV/NIS
installed. Symantec products are malware, and should be uninstalled and
replaced!

As for a workaround for your current problem see:

I have the same problem. It did not start until I had an automatic security
up grade last night Please advise me if there is a fix

The problem started yesterday. I do have auto update turned on so the timing
would be right for the automatic security upgrade. I'll check the
workaround suggested by Kurt.

Hi Guys

This happened to me also this week after downloading the latest update. I
had to
remove the updates to fix the problem. Go to Control Panel, add/Remove
programs, being sure to check the box show updates. After I deleted them,
all is
well. I'm sure Microsoft will fix this, just be patient.

You should understand that you are leaving your computer system more
vulnerable than you need to.

Hopefully the rest of the group is smart enough not to follow your lead,
like lemming off the cliff.

We've determined that the majority of the issues people are having with
MS06-015 / KB908531 are due to a bad interaction between the security
update
and a software component included with various HP hardware devices,
including but not limited to printers, scanners, and cameras.

Here are two fixes which should fix problems caused by the interaction
with
the HP software:
------------------------------

Option 1 - Modify the registry

- (If you have multiple user accounts set up) Log onto the computer
using an
account with Administrator privileges

- Click the Start button, then click Run and type "regedit" at the
prompt,
without the quotes; this will start Registry Editor

- Locate the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell
Extensions\Cached key in Registry Editor

- Right click on the key and select New / DWORD Value

- Rename the resulting value "{A4DF5659-0801-4A60-9607-1C48695EFDA9}
{000214E6-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} 0x401", without the quotes

- Right click the value, select Modify, and type "1" into the Value Data
field

- Close Registry Editor
------------------------------

Option 2 - Kill the HP process

- Wait until Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, or whichever component
is
encountering problems is in an unresponsive state

- Click the Start button, then select Run and type "taskmgr" at the
prompt,
without the quotes; this will start Task Manager

- Locate any instances of hpgs2wnd.exe or hpgs2wnf.exe in Task Manager,
then
right click on them and select End Process

(Note: Option 2 this may disable some HP device-specific functionality
until
you restart your computer.)

If your computer is not currently unresponsive, you should only have to
do
Option 1 or Option 2, not both. If your computer is currently
unresponsive,
you should be fixed by doing Option 2.

I'm very sorry about the inconvenience this has caused you all;
hopefully
this will get things back on track. Please note that MS06-015 fixes a
critical security vulnerability, so it's very important that you
reinstall
it as soon as possible if you've uninstalled it. Please also keep in
mind
that disabling Auto Update will leave your computer unprotected even
after
we release security updates. I understand that this experience has been
very frustrating for many of you, but I really must still strongly
recommend
that you leave Auto Update enabled for your own safety.

I tried that fix on my computer - but it didn't do anything. Oddly enough,
my problem (while undoubtedly linked to one of the hunteentrillion Windows
issues) only rears it's ugly head when I connect either a scanner to a USB
connection (happened with 3 different scanners from 3 different manufactures)
OR now this week when I connected my Canon Elura 100 via Firewire (no
software, just the pre-installed Windows XP driver). It causes that same
address issue in the Windows Explorer address bar, but also when I go into
Windows Explore window it also takes forever and a day to pull up my files
and drivers. If I restore my computer to the minute before I plugged in
either of these devices, then these problems go away. I've spend countless
hours on this website and I've also spent several talking to the Highest
level "Pros" at HP to no avail.

Those new Mac commercials really have a point, don't they?!?!?

Since it's several months since all the other post here, maybe someone has a
solution? If so, I'd love to hear it!
