You just can't pass up a reason to bash Vista. It seems like you have
nothing better to do with your time. Everyone knows there are issues. Why
not go down to the local YMCA and pass out towels to the swimmers. That
would be a much better use of your time.

Hello Bill

Im glad to see that you're in your positive mood today
Please tell me why am I bashing vista in this post about a new beta version
of IE8?

O

On the Bridge!

Yes I know.. perhaps they got "inspired" from that? lol

But there is more to IE8 than that.. they are promising to make it
"standards" compilent
and to retain backward compatibility, IE8 will have 2 modes of rendering..
the OLD IE7 way, and the new IE8 way that will follow the web standards.

Why both? some sites were made that worked in ie7 but were not compleatly
standard compilent,
and MS doesnt want to break backward compatibility.

Im installing IE8 now to give it a spin

Because you have to take the link to Beta 1, which probably 99% of the
people here could care less about a release 1 of a Beta product and give the
warning you did. People who post here could care less about a Beta 1
product, they jus want to get their computers working. Just another jab!

Your warning was well justified. On my own system, first thing I noticed
after installing IE 8 beta was the odd appearance of the Windows
Sidebar...everything was larger than normal, and the clock looked as if
1/4 of it had been sliced away. No big issue, right? This is simply
beta...but it was puzzling. More disappointing was IE8 itself--on my
install over here, it crashed immediately upon launch. Even a reboot
didn't help either of these issues. "IE 8 has stopped working" appeared
onscreen each time it was launched.

An Acronis backup of my Vista install was quickly restored, removing all
traces of IE 8, at least for now. I'm still curious, and will eagerly
download the next build, if a public beta of it is made available once
again.

On the Bridge!

you dont understand what that beta is do you?
Its a developers beta for people to get their sites ready for internet
explorer 8

Its to see how your or anyone elses site is rendered under the new engine
and make adjustments
thats why it has that IE7 icon on the toolbar.. dah...

I think many people will be interested... Why not, and even if they are not,
its still relative to this newsgroup and it is in fact news. I dont get
you... you are strange....

You keep complaining, you whine you cry, you insult, you blame, you
accuse...

Seems like you are the negative one in reality.. LOL

give it a rest, or if you want to troll, go pick on someone else.

Yes it is and I installed IE8 without removing anything and it is working
perfectly. This is on a test machine I use with XP-SP2. Have you or anyone
notice a huge speed difference? I can't believe how fast pages load compared
to IE7. I don't use any bench marking programs, but it is noticeably faster.

Interesting Bill because I installed it on a test machine using XP-SP2 with
IE7-Pro enabled and it installed flawlessly. One thing for sure that I was
really impressed with was the speed. I am amazed at how fast web sites load
compared to IE7.

There is some speedup in the layout but the JavaScript is painfully
slow. I'm hoping it's due to debug code or something else that can be
improved before shipping. It's almost 4 times as slow as all other
competitive browsers in my application.

Hi Tim,

Are you using Vista or XP?
Haven't tried it on Vista yet will do so tomorrow, but on XP it just amazed
me how fast it is.

I've finally been able to work with IE8 awhile this evening--went over
to one of my Windows XP partitions where it installed and ran properly.
Though there are expected rough edges, I was particularly impressed with
the readability of the webpages that I tried...type was noticeably
larger/infinitely more readable on pages that I'm used to accessing,
compared to both Opera and previous versions of Internet Explorer...and
this was at the default 100% magnification level. I'm so used to having
to magnify pages to 120% or higher these days before they can be
comfortably read--this was a very welcome surprise.

Microsoft may win me back to Internet Explorer with this release.

Will do Bear, but Yeovil, Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User wouldn't have
seen my reply in this case.
