Internet Explorer 6 SP1 install help

Ok I downloaded the Internet Explorer 6 SP1 install from the Microsoft homepage from: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/download.as

It finished downloading succesfully but when I install it it only goes up to 84% complete and then does not do anything after that. The program did not crash and the computer did not freeze

Also I heard that Internet Explorer SP1 is also included when you update to Windows XP Service Pack 1 (Express) but I heard some things about the Windows XP SP1 that your computer might not start correctly or some other stuff will happen to the computer....is this stuff true? should i go ahead and install the Windows XP SP1 ??

Hi,
if you have not yet installed XP service pack 1 then you must install it.

You cannot install Internet Explorer 6 SP1 in that fashion with Windows XP.
You need to install Service Pack 1 for Windows XP and all the other Critical
Updates available from the Windows Update website.

ok i tried to install the Windows XP SP1 by going in to Internet Explorer and then click on Tools and then on Windows update. I then click on Scan for updates then Review and Install Updates. The XP SP1 is the first one there but it says it needs to be installed seperetly so id say 'remove' to all the others except for that one. then i click install it downloads fine but it takes forever for it to install. the little bar at the bottom is all filled up but it just sits there and does nothing...and help??
