When I connect to IE6 I no longer get the dial up
connection window appearing, I just get a message to say
no connection is available. Try what I may I am unable to
connect unless I have already made a connection through
Outlook. Even when starting Outlook the dial up
connection window has stopped appearing. It is only by
clicking Send/Receive that a connection option appears.

Any ideas out there

I found the solution to this, I think. Do you have the Google toolbar
installed and running? If so, uninstall it (Control Panel > Add/Remove
Programs). I did that and it fixed the problem immediately. The only thing
I was using it for anyhow was for a pop-up blocker, and I just downloaded
another freeware one that somebody posted a link to around here.

Here's the download site:

He has two versions, a freeware one, and a shareware one you can purchase
for $20. I just downloaded the free one.

See that's what's weird about mine (unless an IE update was installed
without my knowing it). The last IE install I had was a couple of days ago
(through automatic updates), and I've been connecting fine since then, up
until today. Yeah, I've also used the Google toolbar for a while. This
popup blocker I downloaded (see link below) seems to work pretty good...

I have had the Google toolbar for quite a while now but
just yesterday I started to have the same problem with IE
and the dial up cennection window. The only thing
different between a day ago and now is I downloaded the
IE6 security update the other day and thats when it
started.

You don't need to uninstall the Google toolbar. Just rename the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\NavClient\1.1\Promo key in the registry.
Close all instances of IE and backup the registry before making the change.

Many thanks to all those who responded. Tried the
simplest suggestion first and removed the Google tool
bar. Eureka ! It worked for me. Can't understand it
though as the problem only started recently ang Google has
been installed for years. Might reinstall Google and see
whether it screws up again.
Thanks again folks.
